GENERAL SUMMARY:
As a department director, responsible for the delivery of patient care that promotes safety and well ! being of all patients in the assigned department(s) on a twenty four hour basis. Plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates the overall clinical nursing practice and administrative activities, including fiscal, material and human resource management. Participates in the development and implementation of hospital policies and procedures. Maintains open communication with all staff and administrative team, to promote improvement in performance. Assumes responsibility for the role of administrative supervisor as needed. Provides leadership and support to encourage the optimum development and performance of each staff inember.
Supports and demonstrates actions consistent with Ochsner Health System's "Ochsner Expectations" as duties are performed on a daily basis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Education, Experience Training:
Licensed registered nurse, current to practice nursing in the state of Louisiana. Experience in a
hospital environm! ent for position as a manager, supervisor or charge nurse for ! a minimum of
one year. Clinical nurse experience a minimum of three years. Masters degree preferred. BLS
and ACLS required. PALS required if employed in area that treats pediatric population.
B. Other Qualifications:
Self directed and able to work independently. Ability to exercise good judgment in handling
difficult situations; ability to exercise good organizational and time management skills. This
position requires a sound knowledge of nursing practice and exceptional leadership abilities.
Must demonstrate professional responsibility and accountability of own practice.
C. Physical Demands:
Ability to move from place to place for meetings on and off campus and making rounds in the
hospital. Ability to work longer that eight hours per day. Moving about in excess of 80% of the
day in order to carry out duties in a fast-paced environment requiring a high level of inental and
physical effort. As per Dicti! onary of Occupational Titles, Vo1.II, 4th edition, medium work exerting 20 to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or 10-251bs of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 lbs of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for light work. Able to function calmly in stressful situations.
Office environment: Working environment is inside, climate controlled, with limited chemical
exposure. Involves the use of the computer, telephone, patient call system. Occasional travel by plane or car to professional meetings, seminars or speaking engagements. Frequent direct
patient contact.
