General Job Summary
The Mid Level Provider enhances the nature and quality of care for acute and chronically ill pe! diatric, adult, and geriatric population. The Mid Level Provider works under the supervision of the Medical Director or approved staff physician and in association with the PCCs, staff nurses, and discharge coordinator in the planning, implementation and evaluation of medical and nursing care. The Mid Level Provider’s major areas of responsibility include primary and urgent medical management, emergency stabilization of all critically ill patients, teaching of residents and medical students, staff development and education, patient education and discharge planning.
The Mid Level Provider demonstrates actions consistent with Ochsner’s “Expectations†as duties are performed on a daily basis.
Required Qualifications
Education / Certifications / Licensure / Specialized Training
For Physician Assistants:
Bachelors Degree in Physician Assistant Medicine or Health Sciences or graduate of an Approved Physician Assistant Trainin! g Program
NCCPA Certified
Current Louisiana State Lice! nsure as a Physician Assistant
BCLS/ACLS Current Certification
Fully licensed and credentialed as outlined by the Medical Staff Office of Ochsner Health System
Eligibility for Louisiana Prescriptive Authority as outlined by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners
For Advanced Practice Nurses:
Masters Degree in Nursing
Family Nurse Practitioner ANCC or AANPCP Certified for Family Practice
Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult Nurse Practitioner ANCC or AANPCP Certified for General Internal Medicine or Hospital Medicine
Acute Care Nurse Practitioner ANCC or AANPCP Certified for Intensive Care Units
Family Nurse Practitioner or Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner ANCC or AANPCP Certified for General Pediatrics, Pediatric Intensive Care, or Pediatric Hospital Medicine
Current Louisiana State Licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
BCLS/ACLS Current Certification
Fully licensed and credentialed as out! lined by the Medical Staff Office of Ochsner Health System
Eligibility for Louisiana Prescriptive Authority as outlined by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing
Experience / Skills
Overall physical workload can be demanding
Must be capable of prolonged periods of standing or bending.
Must be able to frequently move from multiple patient areas to desks and to other areas of the clinic to accompany patients.
Must be able to work longer than 8 hours per day, stand and walk in excess of 80% of the day, in order to carry out duties in a fast-paced environment that requires a high level of mental and physical effort. Position requires limited travel including off campus educational meetings.
Position requires continuous patient exposure, both in and outside of isolation rooms.
Position requires limited chemical exposure to cleaning agents.

1. Utilizes the approved medical practices process in the delivery of all patient care
2. Provides care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned areas.
3. Manages the Ochsner patient population by providing care and participates in activities for professional development
4. Provides education to patients, families, staff, other health professionals, and to the community.
5. Communicates information to patients and staff and acts as a leader and role model to facilitate collaboration
6. Maintains an attitude of inquiry towards medical practices and patient care outcomes and develops research methodology.
