The Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) School of Medicine in New Orleans is seeki! ng an outstanding physician/scientist to serve as Chief of the Department of Medicineâs Section of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine/Allergy and Immunology. The successful candidate may also be selected to fill the Ernest N. Morial Asthma, Allergy, and Respiratory Disease Center Endowed Chair. The Section of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine consists of 12 full-time faculty members and has a fully accredited subspecialty training program for 11 fellows.
The section has established research programs in pulmonary host defense, alcohol abuse, HIV-related pulmonary disease, tuberculosis, and emphysema. The Pulmonary and Critical Care Section recently subsumed the Section of Allergy and Immunology, which has an accredited fellowship program in adult and pediatric allergy/immunology. LSUHSC School of Medicine is currently expanding its relationships with its private clinical partners in concert with management transitions at the LSU public hospitals. The new Univ! ersity Medical Center (replacement for Charity Hospital) in Ne! w Orleans is under construction, with anticipated opening date in 2015.
A recently awarded NIH funded IDEA grant provides support for training of clinical scientists and translational and clinically relevant research. These developments provide career development opportunities for School of Medicine faculty. Prospective candidates must be board certified in internal medicine and pulmonary/critical care medicine and have a demonstrated record of research funding in the area of pulmonary disease. The successful candidate must also have an MD or MD/PhD degree and be eligible for Louisiana licensure.
The person who holds this position will have an academic appointment at the LSU School of Medicine at the Associate Professor or Full Professor level, commensurate with the candidateâs experience and record of academic achievement.
