Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Chef to join our team at an African themed lounge/restaurant. As a Chef, you will be responsible for creating and executing a menu inspired by the rich and diverse culinary traditions of Africa. Your expertise in African cuisine, creativity, and ability to manage a kitchen team will contribute to providing our guests with an exceptional dining experience.

Responsibilities:

Menu Creation and Development:

  • Develop a menu that reflects the diverse flavors, ingredients, and cooking techniques of African cuisine, while ensuring a balanced and enticing selection for our guests.
  • Collaborate with the management team to ensure the menu is aligned with the overall concept and vision of the African themed lounge/restaurant.
  • Stay updated with current food trends and incorporate them into menu development, while maintaining authenticity.

Food Preparation and Presentation:

  • Oversee all aspects of food preparation, including ingredient sourcing, recipe development, and portion control, while maintaining high quality and consistency.
  • Ensure that all food items are prepared and presented according to established recipes, plating standards, and food safety regulations.
  • Train and educate kitchen staff on proper cooking techniques, presentation, and adherence to recipes.

Kitchen Operations Management:

  • Lead and manage the kitchen team, providing guidance, support, and coaching to ensure efficient operations and a positive working environment.
  • Monitor and control food costs, inventory, and wastage to maximize profitability while maintaining quality standards.
  • Collaborate with the purchasing department to source high-quality ingredients, ensuring consistency and availability of supplies.
  • Maintain kitchen equipment, cleanliness, and sanitation standards, following local health and safety regulations.

Team Development and Training:

  • Recruit, hire, and train kitchen staff, ensuring that they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous learning within the kitchen team.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to staff, identifying areas for improvement and implementing training programs as needed.

Guest Interaction and Satisfaction:

  • Interact with guests, providing culinary insights, explaining menu items, and accommodating special requests or dietary restrictions.
  • Respond to guest feedback and reviews, taking appropriate actions to address concerns and ensure guest satisfaction.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Chef
  • In-depth knowledge of African culinary traditions, ingredients, and cooking techniques.
  • Strong creativity and ability to develop unique and innovative menu items.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with staff and guests.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
